Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Regarding our Trips

  • I haven’t traveled much, are these trips for experienced travelers only?

We welcome folks with all levels of travel experience on our trips. From seasoned travelers to those who are leaving their home country for the first time, we welcome anyone with an open mind and the desire to experience more of the world. The trip host and local guides will be there to help you every step of the way regardless of your experience level.

  • Can I come solo on a Travel Light trip?

We love and encourage solo travelers! Typically about half of our groups are made of solo travelers. Part of the beauty of these trips is in the people you will meet. Many of our guests leave with close friends and future travel buddies. We've even had guests meet their spouse on our trips!

  • How fit do I have to be to join a Travel Light trip?

This will depend on the trip you are joining. Please read the description of the trip carefully so see the level of fitness required and contact us if you want to further discuss.

  • I have never been on a trekking trip before, can I join one?

You have to start somewhere! If you have never been on a trekking trip you are encouraged to join us IF you are committed to training and you currently live an active lifestyle.

  • What’s included in the group trip price?

This varies by trip but in general our trips include everything except international airfare, snacks, alcohol, some meals, and tips for local guides and drivers.

  • Who are these trips for?

Travel Light trips are for anyone who wants to experience more adventure and connection in their lives. Our guests vary widely and that adds to the beauty of the experience. We encourage guests to be flexible, respectful, kind, open-minded, considerate, positive, and on-time. Respect and enjoy locals, our guides, and the other members of the group and you'll fit right in!

  • Is there an age limit?

While Travel Light trips are open to anyone 21 years of age or older, the majority of attendees are age 30 to 50. All are welcome and we certainly have people below and above that range.

  • Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

We always do our best! Please be sure to note your dietary requests when you sign up.

  • What should I pack?

Each trip receives a custom packing list. Melanie loves to help with gear so let her know if you have questions!

  • What is the most appropriate type of luggage to bring?

We strongly recommend bringing a backpack as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc.. Keep in mind that you will normally have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.

  • How big are the groups?

Our groups are anywhere from 10-18 guests. We like to keep our trips small to enhance the bonding experience.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

    Deposit

Your deposit is refundable for seven (7) calendar days from the date your booking is confirmed. If you cancel within seven (7) calendar days of booking, your deposit will be refunded less any non-recoverable credit card processing fees incurred by Travel Light. After the seven (7) day refund period has expired, your deposit is non-refundable.

If you cancel 91 days or more before departure:

Your non-refundable deposit will be forfeited.

Any additional payments you've made will be refunded to your original form of payment, less any non-refundable payments made to suppliers and any credit card processing fees.

If you cancel 90 days or less before departure:

All payments made are non-refundable and non-transferable.

If you book within 90 days of departure, all payments made at the time of booking are immediately non-refundable.

This cancellation policy applies regardless of the reason for cancellation, including illness, injury, family emergencies, work conflicts, airline disruptions, weather events, natural disasters, government travel restrictions, or any other personal circumstance.

Because of this, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. If your reason for cancellation is covered under your policy, you may be able to recover your trip costs through your insurance provider.

  • Is travel insurance required?

Travel insurance is not included in the trip price or required. However, it is strongly recommended! Most insurance providers that offer “cancel for any reason” insurance require that you purchase travel insurance within a certain number of days (i.e. 21 days) of your initial trip reservation (the date you first made your downpayment on this site). For that reason, it is recommended that you research travel insurance ASAP after booking your trip so that you have the option of cancel for any reason coverage, should you desire it. If you do not need this type of coverage, you can purchase insurance any time before the trip commences. If you want cancel for any reason insurance you can use Battleface or Wanderwell. We recommend World Nomads or Safety Wing for regular travel insurance.

  • Can you help me plan my solo trip?

YES! We offer one-on-one zoom consultations to help you plan your trip. See our consultations tab for details.
